Job Description:
A kitchen helper plays a crucial role in assisting the kitchen staff and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. As a kitchen helper, your primary responsibilities will include:
1. Food Preparation Assistance: Assisting the chefs and cooks in preparing ingredients for cooking, such as peeling, chopping, and slicing vegetables, portioning meat, and measuring ingredients accurately.
2. Dishwashing and Cleaning: Ensuring the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen by washing dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen surfaces, equipment, and appliances regularly.
3. Food Storage and Stock Management: Assisting with the proper storage of food items, including refrigeration and labeling. Monitoring and restocking supplies, ingredients, and kitchen inventory as needed.
4. Kitchen Equipment Maintenance: Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, such as stoves, ovens, grills, and fryers. Reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor.
5. Waste Management: Proper disposal of kitchen waste, including sorting recyclables and ensuring compliance with waste management guidelines.
6. Adherence to Food Safety Standards: Following established food safety and hygiene protocols to ensure the safety and quality of food preparation and handling. Maintaining a clean and organized work area to meet health and safety regulations.
7. Assistance during Service: Providing support to the kitchen staff during busy periods, including plating dishes, garnishing, and ensuring timely delivery of food to customers.
8. Collaboration and Communication: Working collaboratively with the kitchen team, chefs, and other staff members to ensure smooth operations and effective communication within the kitchen.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, culinary terms, and kitchen equipment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a fast-paced environment.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks.
